Biography

Alfi is a final-year master's student studying Aerospace Engineering at Tohoku University, Sendai, Japan. He has been working with Prof. Koji Shimoyama as a researcher in machine learning for aircraft design at the Fluids Engineering with Data Science Lab. He is also working as a part-time aerodynamics engineer at teTra aviation corp, a Tokyo-based startup company, developing a commercial eVTOL aircraft.

His research primarily lies in the intersection between machine learning and aircraft design optimization. Specifically, he has concentrated on surrogate-based optimization and its applications in the design of transonic aircraft wings. He's recently become interested in researching the design and operations of Urban Air Mobility (UAM) vehicles (eVTOL and eSTOL) for a more sustainable future. For his PhD, he wants to develop tools for exploring novel aircraft concepts using a multi-objective evolutionary robust approach. He aspires to become a researcher involved in the research and development of UAM vehicles for passenger transport.

While not debugging codes, he enjoys singing, playing guitar, traveling, and teaming up with friends on some mobile games.
